Lyric sheetFrom «Signal Fires»

Light a fire on the headland

let them see it from the sea

we have been waiting at the edge of the map

for someone to come back for me

The weather turns and turns again

the road is just a rumour now

so light the hill and light it high

they'll find us anyhow

Five songs written on the west coast in the week the van broke down.

Tracklist

Liner notes

The van died on a single-track road on the Ardnamurchan peninsula, two days before a run of island shows. The part would take a week. We rented the nearest cottage, unpacked the gear into the living room and decided to write instead of waiting.

Five songs in six days. Jude recorded everything on a laptop and two microphones, with the wind doing its best to ruin every take. We left a lot of it in. The crackle at the start of Headland is the fire in the grate.

Light the Hill

The closing song started as a joke about lighting a beacon so the mechanic could find us. By the end of the week it had turned into the most serious thing we had written, and it is still the last song of the night when we play a long set.

The EP sold out at the merch table that winter.
